Snowshoe Demos and Instruction Encouraged! A special recognition of Bob Lundeen's everlasting encouragement, support, smiles, and his presence that he graced us with over the 18 years. Bob Lundeen was always an active member who believed in our endeavors for the community of Deer River. He passed away August 1, 2005, and is missed so very much. We've made his favorite Fur Trade Sled Dog Dog Event as a Memorial forever in his honor and rememberance. We will be referring to that category as the "Bob Lundeen Memorial Classic". This year again, Pat Richards has worked hard to have a very special Fur Trade Blackpowder Rifle for the champion Musher and team in this category!!! There will be other "Fur Trade" era prizes for that category. Ed Valek, another White Oak Member who loved the White Oak, and especially was very involved in the White Oak Sled Dog Classic has passed away August 31, 2006. He is missed so very much, and it is the wishes of his family that the Memorials be sent to the White Oak Sled Dog Classic! He was also honored this year at the beginning of the Festivities at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on stage in the Rendezvous grounds. There will be a special event held in his honor and rememberance. His wife, Diane and daughter will continue in his honor to help with the event. We invite his entire family to attend this special time in honor of Ed. The Gosh Dam Place, Squaw Lake, Northome, Effie, Bigfork, and Marcell communities will be participating this next year! Many viewing areas will be available along the course. Concessions and warming areas available at these sites, and at the White Oak Fur Post. The White Oak Fur Post will be the start for every category. They will be lining up the teams, getting ready for the races to begin at the outdoor stage at 10 in the morning. The teams will be off to Gosh Dam Place, Squaw Lake and the 10 Dog teams to Northome, and now past to Effie, Bigfork and their final ending place in 2007 will be the Marcell Family Center. We invite local folks to share in this opportunity to celebrate the life and great memories of our late mayor of Deer River, Bob Lundeen, who was not only a member of the White Oak Society, but also a very excited supporter of this Sled Dog Event! Also this year we honor Ed Valek, another great supporter of the Sled Dog Event sho has also passed away, in a special ceremony at the beginning also.
