White Oak Dog Sled Race 2013

There will be two races featured this year. The first is an 18 mile sprint race up to the famous Gosh Dam Place. The second race will send mushers approx 40 miles round trip from the Fur Post to the Itasca County Fairgrounds, then a 2-hr layover, and then back again.

Saturday’s Race Starts at 10am!

The fun starts at the White Oak Historical Site just north of Deer River, Minnesota. Join us for one of the White Oak Society’s most exciting events of the winter season!

Vet check-ins will be from noon to 7:00 p.m. on the Friday before the race. Race begins on Saturday morning. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner!

Spaghetti Dinner on Friday evening. Wake up with the dogs and have breakfast with the White Oak Society Saturday morning. We’ve got you covered for lunch too at the fair grounds with coffee, hot chocolate, hot dogs, polish, sloppy joes, chips, and more.

Spaghetti Dinner Friday Night 4pm – 7pm ($5.00). Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, Salad, Beverage.

Breakfast Saturday Morning 7am-9am ($5.00). Pancakes, French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Oatmeal, and Beverage.

Meet the dogs, their mushers, and eat good food at Gosh Dam Place from 11am – 4pm and at the Fair Grounds from 11am – 3pm.

Join us for sloppy joes, polish, hot dogs, chips, pop, coffee, and hot chocolate and the Awards Ceremony back at White Oak at 5pm.

Total Race Purse: $1325.00!

Prizes for the 18 mile race will include:  

“Alaskan Husky Class” 

  • 1st place: $150
  • 2nd place: $100
  • 3rd place: $50
“Big Dog Class” 

  • 1st place: $150
  • 2nd place: $100
  • 3rd place: $50
  • Hand-Etched “Red Lantern” for last place.
Prizes for the 40 mile race will include:  

  • 1st Place: A $250 Wool Capote + $100.00
  • 2nd Place: A $250 Engraved, Antler Handled Knife + $75.00
  • 3rd Place: $50.00
  • Last Place: Hand-Etched “Red Lantern”.
